Vintage wedding inspiration, lace umbrellas and pretty maids all in a row

Gorgeous real wedding inspiration time. I love everything about this – from the styling to the bridesmaids’ gowns (you won’t believe where they’re from!) to the pretty plaits in Lydia’s hair. Shot by Geoff Kirby Photography and assisted by Kathryn Edwards, the day is beautifully captured from start to finish. I hope you enjoy it as much as we do here – loving the birdcage cake! Here’s the lovely bride, Lydia, to tell you all about her and hubby Mark’s big day:

“As a huge fan of costume dramas Downton Abbey and Upstairs Downstairs, I wanted our day to have similar elements of Edwardian and pre-war vintage style and glamour whilst still being very personal to us. I really enjoyed styling the look; hunting for pieces of silverware with my mother-in-law (champion haggler), borrowing brooches from our nans, embroidering my wedding initials on the inside of my dress as my ‘something blue’, making our little jam favours and choosing our hymns, wedding music and first dance with Mark. We tried to divide tasks equally so I did most of the creative stuff whilst Mark did all of the researching and price comparing and booking cars, honeymoon, suits etc and kept a handle of the finances.”

“I knew it was going to be a very emotional day when Mark sent his best man Stuart round on the morning of the wedding, with a surprise present for me- and it was the matching necklace to my engagement ring, presented to me with a beautiful card and heartfelt message inside! I was so choked up- as our wedding video testifies!”

“My advice to future brides: Write lists and lists and lists!! There’s so much to remember to do but take advantage of friends and family who can help out and give them specific jobs to do. That way, everybody feels they’ve contributed towards your day and it feels personal to them as well. Also document the build up to the wedding if you can- getting things ready, writing out place cards or arranging flowers- Mark hadn’t seen any of this and he loved seeing what had gone on ‘behind the scenes’ and it’s fun to reminisce with all those that helped out along the way.”
