Under the Vintage Veil’s best and worst public proposals

I’m not entirely sold on the big, public proposal. On the one hand, it’s a sort of fantasy. We’re kind of conditioned to expect to want a grand gesture. On the other hand, emotions are much more complicated than that. What we think we want isn’t always what feels right in the moment. I think if you’re going to go for a huge public display, you need to a.) be sure that your other half will say yes and b.) be an incredibly charismatic and smooth person!

So I thought I’d bring you some of my favourite public proposals… and the ones that made me die inside a little bit! Either way, I hope they entertain you (just don’t let the boss catch you giggling at them!) Enjoy!

The best public proposals

Everyone loves Disney! OK, so this is possibly the cheesiest thing I’ve ever seen, but at least it’s not a half-hearted effort…

This is a long one, so grab a cuppa if you’re planning to watch the whole thing. I don’t really understand the beginning… seems a little cruel… but the rest of it is pretty entertaining!

Very well executed – and I like that it’s in a cinema, without a flashmob terrifying the poor lady!

And the worst public proposals… ouch!

Stuff her with cake so she’s all covered in crumbs and goo and feeling really bloated and ill, make her puke, get the wrong hand and spring a surprise, next-day wedding on your blushing bride to be. *Slow clap*

If you’re going to propose on TV, you should probably ensure that you’re first able to formulate a coherent sentence. This guy isn’t. Oh, and you should probably check your girlfriend is in the same emotional place as you. This is the very definition of awkward.

OK, so this looks pretty fake. BUT it’s still funny, and a valuable lesson in not hiding the ring in stupid places. In a box then on her finger, no need to overcomplicate things!

This is just the stuff of horror movies – the booing crowd, the mascot in the ridiculous costume leading him off the pitch… ahhh how romantic… erm…

Well, I guess if you propose in a food court and she says yes, you have your pick of fine dining. And romantic music, obviously…

What’s your all-time favourite proposal? Have you seen anything cringe-worthy lately? I’d love to hear your thoughts and see your vids!
