Morning everyone. In the run up to the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee week, I’ll be featuring a series of Jubilee posts. Here’s the first, a beautiful styled shoot by Big Little Things and shot by Meg Hawkins Photography. Fran and Sarah of Big Little Things sent me a wonderful piece to go with this shoot, so I’ll hand over to them to tell you all about what inspired the styling:
“Big Little Things needed no encouragement to style a wedding shoot paying tribute to the Queen and the impending Jubilee. It is potentially the last time in our life time we’ll celebrate a Jubilee of a reigning Queen – how exciting is that?
Our inspiration for the shoot was British heritage and the young, fresh-faced Princess Elizabeth. We researched photography of the princess in the months before her coronation and felt our model; Madeline Scriven fitted the role perfectly. We collaborated with a exceptional wedding and portrait photographer, Meg Hawkins who is renowned for her best use of natural light to capture the perfect ambience within the images. Along with Meg, Liz Bell MUA brought ‘our Elizabeth’ to life.
The backdrop for the shoot is the magnificent country mansion and premier Shropshire wedding venue, Davenport House. Built in the 17 th Century it has a wonderful elegance that was more than in-keeping with heritage theme of the day. The venue’s lovable dogs popped in to say ‘hello’ – what member of royalty doesn’t have a dog?! We styled the venue with vintage crockery supplied by the wonderful Claire at The Vintage Occasion. We are devils for detail and the genuine 1953 coronation mug leads our colour palette and overall design. From the cream peonies and passion flowers in the bouquets to the brush-work and floral piping design on the cake – each aspect reflected elements of the mug! The monarchy symbolism continues on the cake with the gold fleur-de-lis associated with French Royalty, not forgetting our handmade coronation crown cake topper.
The look of the day was completed with a bespoke bridal gown called ‘Harriet’ which was designed, created and loaned by Jennifer Bone the owner of My Little Wedding Shop, an independent boutique specialising in the best of British design and manufacture – the perfect designer for such a celebration of British Heritage. We adore the 1950’s style tea length dress because of the rose detail and its ‘English Rose’ connotations. We hand crafted a vintage style side tiara to compliment the bouquet and dress too.”
