Cake of the week – Pistachio Birdcage by Cakes by Beth

Bringing this week’s cake of the week to you rather late on a lovely summery Monday evening! This week’s pick is a gorgeous design from Cakes by Beth, and it’s a beautiful green and floral masterpiece to get you in the mood for summer! Here’s what Beth had to say about her work:

“I designed this cake for Gemma and Rob, the loveliest couple who were having their reception in a marquee in the grounds of Church Farm, with beautiful views over the estuary and the neighbouring field of alpaca. The couple were having an English garden style wedding, with lots of Cath Kidston style prints, beautiful tall displays of cream, peach, lilac and pink flowers, lots of green and an overall feel of freshness and pastels.

They loved birdcage cakes and wanted a pistachio green background with some for the colours and details from their wedding, so I created this for them, which featured rational roses and more ruffled roses in a shade off off-white to stand out against the cream lace details. I added small pink blossoms and pink flower centres, and a subtle printed fabric-style tier featuring hand-painted roses, to tie in with the other fabrics in the marquee. Inside, guests were treated to traditional moist fruit cake, vanilla sponge with vanilla buttercream and raspberry jam, and a tier of red velvet with vanilla buttercream, which made a fantastic contrast to the pale exterior.”
