Today the impossibly glamourous and timeless style icon, Kate Middleton turns thirty. Not that you’d know it – with her signature demure but down-to-earth style, Kate has captured the essence of ageless beauty, not unlike the old Hollywood icons of the 40s and 50s.
So we’re incredibly lucky today to get an expert insight into how to achieve Kate’s classic look. Helen Kalli, make up artist to the stars (and very lucky brides) has worked with some of the world’s most beautiful women, including Kate Beckinsale, Salma Hayek, Claudia Schiffer, Kate Moss, Jade Jagger and Agynes Dean. In Helen’s words, here’s how to get Kate’s red carpet look:
Kate Middleton attended the ‘War Horse’ Premier looking as beautiful as ever. Her hair in soft barrel waves, her makeup more dramatic, and glamorous than we’ve seen previously. I love that Kate has given her eyes more of a feline edge, this definition has really made them ‘pop’, teamed with a nude lip works perfectly and in synergy as a whole with hair, makeup and wardrobe.
To re-create Kate’s Look
♥ Face ♥
Foundation is flawless and matte, I would use Armani’s Lasting Silk Foundation SPF 20 (£34) as it provides a luminous matte finish that lasts. Apply with a brush to give a natural even veil. Use concealer only in the areas you need to (Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage is marvellous) next set makeup with a translucent powder to keep its hold for that red carpet vava-voom!
♥ Eyes ♥
Kate is all about the eyes. Use an eye base to stop eye makeup from creasing, I love Nars’ Smudge-Proof eye base £18. Then apply a mauvey-grey shadow to the lid, be sure to blend well, Laura Mercier’s Twilight Grey (£18.50) would be perfect, add Laura Mercier’s Fresco (£18.50) to the crease, this adds warm and depth to the socket area. To finish apply Bobbi Browns gel eyeliner, to the top lashline. This is a defined line which follows the natural shape of the eye rather than a flick, I would also recommend applying a dark smoky shadow just above the gel liner to soften any edges. On the lower lashline, as close to the lashes as possible use a black pencil or the dark smoky shadow to frame and finish off the eyes. Lashings of mascara!
♥ Brows ♥
Kate never forgets her brows, fabulously defined, and frames her face magnificently. Angle a brow pencil (so it’s at a slant) and with small feathery strokes begin to shape your brow to define them. Eyebrows make a big difference to a final look, they polish and make you look groomed.
♥ Cheeks ♥
Kate has gone for a warm cheek I would use Jemma Kidd’s Desert Sand (£17)on the apples of your cheek’s.
♥ Lips ♥
Pinky – Nude lips, Laura Merciers Rose Flush (£24.50) would work beautifully.
