“My husband is Scottish so we always knew that our wedding would have a heavy Scottish influence. There was lots of tartan around! Being English though I wanted to bring a bit of the English countryside to the theme too.  We choose our venue The Grange Hotel in Grange-over-Sands in the Lake District, because it was a perfect country location, overlooking the sea.”

“Being crafty I wanted to introduce lots of DIY elements too, so in the months before the wedding I spent hours sewing metres and metres of bunting.  Our favours were little flower pots filled with seeds so that the guests could remember us in the summer months when they grew their sweet peas and tomatoes.  Many of them gave me reports of how well their plants were doing.”

“The centrepieces were created from old jam jars and pewter teapots that I spent hours trawling through junk shops with my dad to collect. It was nice to spend that time with him before the wedding, because soon after the wedding we moved to Glasgow for my husband’s job. We bought lots of pretty flowers from a wholesalers and filled the jars to create lovely centrepieces. My mother in law even reclaimed the slates from a  neighbour in Crieff who was re slating the roof! I also collected old sheet music from ebay to make confetti cones from and seats were reserved by little bunches of lavender, again handmade.  The venue itself was dressed by my wonderful Aunt (in law) Frances Duncan, who runs a little venue dressing company in near Peebles. “

“My dress was a Pronovias dress, Caliope by Ellie Saab, which I adored. I loved the ethereal feel of it. The bridesmaids dresses were 50\s style floral dresses which were purchased from Rose and Co in Leeds. They fitted in perfectly with the country garden theme. Being a bit Florence and the Machine fan, daisies had to feature in my bouquet.  They happen to also be my favourite flower.  I just loved the bridesmaids little posies, and we got married in front of a willow and daisy arch. I’m glad that I put as much time as I did into putting together so many personal touches to the wedding.  I think that it made our guests feel special and involved in the day. I’d like to think think that it made them even a fraction as happy as I was that day.”
